Good Company has developed a proprietary greenhouse gas and energy calculation tool that streamlines the data collection and annual reporting process for operational greenhouse gas inventories. G3C covers a multitude of emissions sources in an easy-to-use and fully transparent process that allows users to easily input data, track emissions and energy consumption over time, and generate the necessary outputs to facilitate streamlined reporting to voluntary registries like The Climate Registry, the Carbon Disclosure Project, mandatory state or federal greenhouse gas reporting, and/or voluntary emissions reporting.
The calculator incorporates the latest greenhouse gas (GHG) inventory protocols, methodologies and best practices from well-established GHG registries, regulatory frameworks and initiatives. Emissions sources included in G3C:

Source: WRI/WBCSD Greenhouse Gas Protocol, Corporate Accounting and Reporting Standard (Revised Edition), Chapter 4, page 26.
Scope 1 – direct emissions from sources owned or operated by the reporting organization
- Mobile sources: gasoline, diesel, ethanol, biodiesel, compressed natural gas, propane consumed in owned vehicles
- Stationary sources: natural gas, propane, and diesel consumed in owned facilities
- Fugitive emissions from refrigerants
Scope 2 – indirect emissions from sources purchased from a utility provider
- Electricity
- District steam
Scope 3 – indirect emissions from other mission-critical business activities
- Business travel emissions from air, bus, diesel rail, electric rail, rental vehicles, and employee-owned vehicles used for business travel
- Employee commute
- Solid waste disposal in landfills
- Product distribution from contracted long-haul vehicles
- Purchased goods and services (supply chain)
- Drinking/waste water

Good Company’s Carbon Calculator (G3C)
- Because G3C is based in Microsoft Excel there is no need for users to devote lengthy software ramp-up time.
- G3C is fully transparent and all emissions factors are documented while allowing users to update them as new information is published and protocols are refined.
- Users may input up to eight (8) years of GHG emissions and energy data to be able to track organizational results over time.
- Users can compare energy consumption and GHG emissions at a facility-level for up to 150 facilities.
- GHG emissions and energy results are displayed in graph and table by year, by Scope, by gas, and by facility.
- Emissions and energy intensities (such as GHGs or energy per square foot) are automatically generated.
- Users can select regional, utility specific or national emissions factors for electricity. The tool automatically generates a sensitivity analysis between these various emissions factors.
- The calculator estimates natural gas, electricity and solid waste emissions from facilities if actual data is unavailable.
- Users can benchmark their natural gas, electricity and solid waste emissions with national averages of similar building types.
- Users stay organized by developing an audit trail inside the calculator to keep track of all their raw data, calculation, and reference files used in the inventory process.
